The College Specialist provides educational navigation. Meets with young people who are interested in college to provide information and assist with the development of an appropriate plan. College Specialist will also assist with college applications, organizing college tours, assist with all financial aid forms and scholarships.
-Meet with young people interested in college to have an exploratory and information session.
-Monitor Pre-SAT/SAT preparation and results as needed. Refine college selections based on results.
-Organize college tours.
-Assist students with college essays and personal statements, where needed. Help young people apply to colleges in line with their interests, preferences, and performance.
-Review any college applications of financial aid forms completed by the student's school/guidance counselor to ensure they are correct.
-Ensure students are signed up for any entrance exams/interviews. Assist students with applying to FAFSA, TAP, ESV, and all applicable scholarships, including reviewing their essays and helping them with letters of reference.
-Reach out to students to ensure they are enrolled in the proper classes each semester, and assist with enrollment, if needed.
-Assist students with transferring colleges, if needed.
-Master's Degree and at least two years of experience working for or with the New York City
-Department of Education in an instructional, administrative, or advocacy-related position.
-Ability to navigate complex educational issues, be resourceful, and work independently.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Attention to detail, strong time-management and organizational skills
-Excellent interpersonal skills and easily builds relationships with youth families, and school partners.
