4 More Tips For Job Seekers Looking For Remote Work

Our first iteration of this series offered six tips to find remote jobs. You asked, we delivered: here are four more tried-and-true strategies to implement in your job search!

1. Work on Your Video Interview Skills

One of the significant differences in applying for remote work instead of in-house work is that you probably won’t have a typical face-to-face, in-person interview. Instead, the recruiter will likely want to conduct an interview via a video service like Skype or Zoom.

If you’ve not done any or many video interviews before, it’s a good idea to practice your technique. Also, ensure you have a working microphone, camera, and well-lit space for the interview.

2. Be Wary of Warning Signs

One of the downsides of remote work is that there are a lot of scammers out there, and it can be hard to tell which job listings are genuine and which ones are better to ignore.

Look for warning signs or red flags as you read job descriptions. Short or poorly-written job listings should be avoided, and employers who fail to provide sufficient information or answers to your questions should be ignored.

3. Organize Your Applications

When applying for remote work online, it’s up to you to keep everything organized. A great way to do this is to set up a spreadsheet where you track things like which company you applied to, what day you applied, whether or not you’ve sent a follow-up, and so on.

Not only will this make your job search neater, tidier, and easier to manage, but it will also help you avoid common mistakes like sending multiple applications for the same job.

4. Send Follow-Ups

One of the most common mistakes people make when applying for remote jobs online is simply sending out an application and then waiting and hoping to get something back. Often, they won’t receive a reply and then simply forget about the job and try again.

Instead of making that same mistake, take the time to send a follow-up email after a little while. This shows that you’re really interested in the role, and even if you don’t get it, the employer can provide some helpful feedback.

Get Your Remote Job Search on Track

As you can see, searching for remote work isn’t quite the same as looking for regular in-office jobs. However, with the right approach, you can see success and get some positive responses.

Remember these tips and find your next remote job in no time. Better yet: look through our job board or speak with a TemPositions recruiter today!
