At the peak of the pandemic, the country’s largest school district recognized an urgent need to develop an information center regarding the continuously changing COVID-19 testing requirements within its network of schools. This recognition led to a specialized Situation Room, complemented by a 6-day-a-week hotline designed specifically to provide essential support to school leaders.
Solution
To address this need, School Professionals stepped up, deploying an extensive team of over 100 liaisons. These individuals were tasked with the responsibility of manning the hotline, ensuring uninterrupted service. The operational hours were strategically set to cover weekdays from 7 am to 8 pm and Sundays from 10:30 am to 9 pm, catering to the varying needs of the schools. This initiative spanned from December 2020 through June 2022, a period marked by significant uncertainty and frequent shifts in public health guidelines.
The selection process for these liaisons was rigorous, focusing on identifying individuals with not only the requisite expertise but also the capacity to handle rapidly changing and often complex situations. This process was crucial in ensuring that each school connected to the hotline received prompt, accurate, and effective guidance tailored to their unique circumstances. The liaisons played a pivotal role in offering real-time support and strategic advice, thereby significantly enhancing the schools’ ability to manage the pandemic’s challenges with greater confidence and efficiency.
