Position Overview:
A mission-driven, community-based nonprofit organization is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support its growing finance team. This role reports directly to the Controller and plays a key part in managing grant-related accounting, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is comfortable working with multiple funding sources and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit grant invoices, drawdown requests, and budget modifications in accordance with funder requirements (federal, state, local, and foundation)
  • Track receivables and collections for active grants, including follow-up on outstanding balances
  • Maintain accurate grant receivable schedules and perform monthly reconciliations to the general ledger
  • Partner with program teams to ensure expenses are allowable, properly documented, and billed timely
  • Assist with audit preparation, financial reporting, and funder reviews
  • Monitor grant deadlines, including expirations and final invoicing requirements
  • Perform budget-to-actual analysis and support variance reporting for grant-funded programs
  • Contribute to month-end and year-end close processes, including audit schedules
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and streamline AR functions

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit environment
  • Strong understanding of grants, contracts, and compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), ADP, and other financial systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting
