Temp Staff Accountant (Onsite)
Location: Pleasanton, CA
Schedule: Onsite, Full-time. M-F, 9 AM - 5 PM PST
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a well-established non-profit organization in Pleasanton, CA. In this role, you will support the day-to-day accounting operations by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with monthly close activities, processing payroll and accounts payable, and preparing financial reports. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while ensuring compliance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger.
- Perform account reconciliations and assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Process and reconcile accounts payable transactions.
- Support payroll processing and related reconciliations.
- Assist with financial reporting, audit preparation, and maintaining supporting documentation.
- Track grant-related financial activity and help ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Support the preparation of tax filings and other required government reports.
- Maintain organized accounting records in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
- Provide backup support to the Accounting Manager as needed.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and other assigned projects.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of accounting experience in a non-profit environment is required.
- Sage software experience is required.
- Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, budgeting, and fixed assets.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (advanced functions), Outlook, and other accounting software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Professional demeanor with the ability to maintain confidentiality and build positive working relationships.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and adaptable in a collaborative team environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Preferred Experience
- Healthcare or FQHC setting or grant accounting experience.
Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented Temp Staff Accountant to support our client's finance team in Pleasanton, CA. This is a fully onsite position, working Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and 2–4 years of accounting experience, in a non-profit environment. Sage 100 experience, strong Excel advanced skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.
This is a temporary, fully onsite position located in Pleasanton, CA, working Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This opportunity has the potential to convert to a direct-hire position; however, any conversion decision will be made solely at the client's discretion.
