Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
Location: Long Island City, NY 11101
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–3:30 PM; one day per week until 4:00 PM for a team meeting
Setting: School/Classroom – Onsite
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to work with students in a school-based setting in Long Island City, NY. The SLP will provide speech and language therapy and evaluations while collaborating with families, teachers, and other professionals to support each student's individual goals.
This position is ideal for an SLP who enjoys working with children and contributing to a collaborative, multidisciplinary school environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide speech and language therapy and evaluations for students
- Address areas including language, auditory processing, articulation, voice, and fluency
- Work with children with autism and a variety of communication needs
- Support students in achieving goals and objectives outlined in their IFSP or IEP
- Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques
- Complete evaluations, progress reports, and required documentation
- Maintain accurate documentation of student services and ongoing needs in accordance with state and local requirements
- Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals
- Participate as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote optimal student functioning and engagement
- Attend weekly team meetings
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support students and the school program
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communicative Disorders, or a related field
- Current New York State Speech-Language Pathologist license required
- TSSLD certification preferred
- PROMPT experience preferred
- Experience working with children with autism preferred
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams
Physical & Workplace Requirements
This is an active school-based position that may require physical assistance and intervention to maintain student safety.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday
- Ability to lift at least 50–65 pounds and assist or physically support students of varying sizes when necessary
- Ability to implement CPI procedures, including therapeutic holds, when trained and required for safety
- Ability to remove oneself and/or others from potentially unsafe situations
- Ability to maintain focus in a dynamic, high-stimulation environment
- Ability to multitask and adjust priorities quickly
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in high-pressure or safety-sensitive situations
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain professional working relationships
- Ability to perform job duties during behavioral escalations or other stressful situations
Work Location: Onsite in Long Island City, NY. Some travel to other locations may be required.
