A Sunset Park Brooklyn based manufacturing client is looking for a contract to hire Safety Manager. The Safety Manager will responsible for assuring environmental, health and safety compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This position would be in Detroit North and Detroit South. The primary purpose of this position ensure that facility operations are conducted in a safe and compliant manner.
• Drive a safety culture throughout the organization • Lead and execute overall driver, warehouse, and office safety training programs within all locations in the area assigned (US and Canada) • Ensure newly hired drivers and warehouse staff are provided safety onboarding and training before they start working • Work with site operations management to deploy programs • Perform field and site safety audits to ensure compliance with Federal, State/Provincial, and company standards including associate behaviors to ensure that training is effective • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for safety and compliance using known industry best practices • Design and develop safety and operational training programs for drivers and warehouse employees • Instruct and train site operational leaders in safety practices and support teams to incorporate safety standards at their site • Ensure timely investigations into serious vehicle crashes and workplace injuries in order to mitigate risk and hazardous procedures • Prepare necessary reports and documentation for OSHA or other government bodies as needed to be compliant • Implement and maintain defensive driving programs that minimize auto liability • Support completion of all required safety meetings, training, and documentation • Communicate company safety scores, DOT Basics and other benchmark metrics
• Bachelor's Degree in occupational safety, engineering, logistics or other related degree • Minimum 5 years experience managing safety in a warehouse or trucking environment • Experience with OSHA, DOT and EPA regulatory requirements • Experience leading safety through influence over multiple facilities that are geographically dispersed • A history of successful implementation of behavioral and proactive safety programs • Strong and clear written and verbal communication in English (Spanish fluency is an asset) • Collaborative working style • Strong analytical and presentation skills • Experience in a growing, fast-paced and changing environment • Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google suite including the use of pivot tables and the development of charts and graphs
