Description

We are currently hiring Medical Assistant/ Secretary professionals for a prestigious, nation’s largest, non-profit academic medical center located in Newtown, CT. The Medical Assistant will help patients by providing information, services, and assistance.

Responsibilities:

  • Greets and brings patients from waiting room to clinical area
  • Obtains vital signs as required
  • Registers and updates patient information 
  • Verifies demographic and insurance information
  • Provides clerical and secretarial work associated with patient care to include copying and dictation
  • Prepares, files and organizes patient charts
  • Schedules appointments as ordered for patients in the office, for testing, or other physicians
  • Assures the examination area is clean and stocked
  • Assures the patient is properly prepared for the scheduled visit to maintain timely patient flow
  • Conducts in-office testing as directed by the physician
  • Coordinates testing and outside ancillary services as applicable
  • Collects, prepares and processes specimens as directed by the physician
  • Maintains inventory and ensures proper upkeep, cleaning and testing of medical equipment and supplies
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit
  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary
  • Saves doctor's time by helping with office procedures
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential
  • Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions about surgery
  • Schedules surgeries by making arrangements with the surgical center; verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admission and consent forms
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
  • Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements
  • Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments


Skills:

  • One-year medical assistant/secretary experience, or graduate of accredited Medical
  • Assistant training program
  • Basic medical knowledge and terminology
  • Skilled in obtaining accurate patient vital signs
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills and professional
  • Bedside manner and the ability to use empathy
