Government Litigation Attorney

On Call Counsel is seeking a New York barred attorney with 3 - 5 years of substantive litigation experience for a long-term contract assignment for a prestigious government agency. Candidates must have at least three years of recent substantive litigation experience and either be admitted to practice in the Eastern and/or Southern District Federal Courts or have the ability to be admitted. Judicial clerkship experience is a plus.
- Start: earliest date possible
- Duration: 6+ months
- Hourly Rate: $35 - $40 depending on experience
- Hours: 40/week
- Location: Downtown Manhattan
Responsibilities:
- Drafting legal documents, such as, settlement memos, answers, briefs
- Reviewing attorney billing disputes
- Corresponding and negotiating with opposing counsel
- Reviewing and summarizing case material and legal documents
- Court appearances in federal court
Skills:
- Must be actively licensed to practice and in good standing in the state of New York
- S.D.N.Y and/or E.D.N.Y admission or the ability to become admitted for the position
- Knowledge of Federal Court Rules and Procedures is required
- 3 to 5 years of recent substantive litigation experience, specifically drafting legal documents and appearing in court
- Experience reviewing and summarizing case material and legal documents
- Legal Research and drafting legal memos and briefs
- Legal document production
- Comfortable being assertive, arguing your case, and communicating with opposing counsel
- Strong negotiation skills
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Proven experience performing under pressure in a fast-paced environment
