We are seeking a California-licensed Employment Defense Attorney to join our client's growing team. The position will be primarily remote aside from court appearances, but Attorneys must be a commutable distance to Auburn. In-office onboarding and training would be required for the first couple of months This role is ideal for someone who values independence, flexibility, and direct client interaction. We are looking to move quickly in hiring the right candidate.
Firm Overview:
A small, dynamic law firm located in Auburn, CA, specializing in employment law defense is. This firm handles a mix of litigation and advisory work for employers across California. They provide employment defense litigation as well as proactive legal advice to HR departments and corporations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Litigation Defense: Represent employers in employment-related litigation, including cases of wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour disputes, and retaliation claims.
- Legal Research and Case Strategy: Conduct legal research, develop case strategies, and stay current on employment law updates.
- Employment Law Compliance: Advise clients on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., FLSA, Title VII, ADA, FMLA).
- Drafting Legal Documents: Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents for court proceedings.
- Dispute Resolution: Engage in negotiations, mediations, and arbitration to settle disputes between employers and employees.
- Risk Management and Policy Development: Assist employers in creating and updating employee handbooks and workplace policies to minimize legal risk
- Client Counseling: Provide ongoing legal advice to clients on workplace issues, including hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
- EEOC and DOL Proceedings: Defend clients in proceedings before the EEOC, DOL, and other administrative bodies.
- Training and Education: Deliver training to clients on key employment law topics (e.g., anti-discrimination, harassment prevention).
Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in California.
- 2+ years of experience in employment law, with a focus on representing employers (preferred).
- Excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently.
- Comfort with remote work while maintaining a collaborative approach with the team.
- Litigation experience and courtroom confidence.
Compensation:
- Base salary: $150k - $200k (assuming full-time), commensurate with experience.
- Open to part-time (20 hours/week), with flexible scheduling available.
Additional Information:
- No billable hour requirement.
- Preference for full-time, but part-time applicants will also be considered.
